Passeier Valley around Saltaus is a real paradise for hiking enthusiasts. A wide variety of trails awaits you, from leisurely walks to challenging tours with views. Popular routes such as the Schildhöfe Trail, the Saltaus Waalweg, the Passer Gorge Trail or the European Long-Distance Trail E5 bring you closer to nature in the Merano region at its finest.

In Passeier Valley you’ll find hiking trails for every level. From leisurely walking paths and the popular Waalwege to scenic panoramic trails and challenging tours in the Hirzer hiking area, there’s something for everyone. Thanks to the well-marked trails, you can choose your route flexibly, depending on your mood, fitness level and weather.

And because stopping for refreshments is simply part of hiking, many rustic alpine huts and mountain inns await you around the Hirzer area. There you’ll find typical South Tyrolean specialities such as speck, cheese, Paarlbrot and homemade pastries, often on sunny terraces with wonderful mountain views. It’s precisely this combination of activity, nature and culinary delights that makes your hiking holiday in Passeier Valley so special.

Hiking Directly from the Hotel

The Hirzer cable car is only about 100 m from Sonnegg and easy to reach on foot. You can get discounted tickets at reception. In around 10 minutes you’ll be up in the Hirzer hiking area at up to 2,000 m, with great trails, alpine huts and panoramic views.
